The Role

A busy and varied role where you will take control of a number projects and contract.

Our businesses work with a variety of clients and manufacturers of which you will need to be familiar with, or have the ability to become accustomed to dealing with, to ensure we as a business can offer and maintain a high level of customer service.

You will be working in a busy office where we feel it is important to have fun whilst being extremely productive.

Husht are excited to introduce a new product range to our acoustic solutions: Gencork, which has been developed by Portuguese manufacturer Sofalca, with design support from Digitalab and Spacegram. This cork product has numerous potential applications, ranging from walls to furniture, and all kinds of interior fittings. It looks incredible on whatever surface it’s applied to, and it has many benefits, including its acoustic properties. Let’s take a look.

100% Natural

The Gencork product is 100% natural; being comprised entirely of cork. Trees don’t need to be cut down either, as only the branches and the bark on them are required. The all-natural construction is achieved by milling branches down into pellets, which are baked in an autoclave. During this process, water vapour is injected, which makes the pellets expand, and the natural cork resins act as an adherent, allowing the pellets to agglomerate into blocks. There are no chemicals or additives required – a block of Gencork is comprised of nothing but natural products straight from the cork tree.

What’s more is that excess biomass produced during the milling process actually serves as fuel that Gencork use to create the steam required for the block construction. This impressive cycle of energy production and manufacturing means that the whole process is believed to be around 95% energy self-sufficient.

Benefits

Gencork’s green credentials don’t end with the production process however; the product is both sustainable and recyclable, and there are benefits once it’s been installed too. Cork is naturally a good thermal insulator, and is also a CO2 sink, which means that it can trap and retain carbon dioxide from the air.

Of course, here at Husht we’re really interested in Gencork’s acoustic properties. Cork itself is an excellent acoustic insulator, which means that these panels and surface coverings do a great job of eliminating unwanted noise. In addition, many of the 3D patterns created by the digital CNC process further break up sound waves, which increases acoustic comfort in whichever space the product is installed.

Generative Design

These patterns are the product of generative design, which is a form creating process inspired by shapes and iterations created by nature. Everything from biomechanics to biometrics serves as inspiration for Gencork art. Below are just a few of the amazing patterns created in the finishing process:

As part of the build in this new primary school in East Ayrshire, Husht were contracted to provide the acoustic solution installation for a number of areas within the school – including a large circulation space and several classrooms. The large corridor is to be a busy area of movement – students will congregate and move between the entrance, classrooms and to other areas of the school. As the space is to be such a busy area, getting the acoustics right was vital.

The Solution

By installing a striking timber plank system with small perforations in between each slat giving an absorption Class C in the circulation space and then using Class A acoustic fabric panels in the classrooms, the schools look and feel was transformed.

The Result

Any risk of side wall reflection or flutter echo was dealt with by using both the timber and fabric systems specified as Accordial and Soundhush to create a school that is easier for the children to communicate and an environment that is calm and inspirational to educate and be educated.
