As part of the build in this new primary school in East Ayrshire, Husht were contracted to provide the acoustic solution installation for a number of areas within the school – including a large circulation space and several classrooms. The large corridor is to be a busy area of movement – students will congregate and move between the entrance, classrooms and to other areas of the school. As the space is to be such a busy area, getting the acoustics right was vital.

The Solution

By installing a striking timber plank system with small perforations in between each slat giving an absorption Class C in the circulation space and then using Class A acoustic fabric panels in the classrooms, the schools look and feel was transformed.

The Result

Any risk of side wall reflection or flutter echo was dealt with by using both the timber and fabric systems specified as Accordial and Soundhush to create a school that is easier for the children to communicate and an environment that is calm and inspirational to educate and be educated.

The Project

Working with Paragon interiors, Husht acoustics had the pleasure of installing the acoustic materials in this fun and vibrant office space.

Cooper Parry understand the importance and benefits of creating an inspirational working environment for its workforce and are willing to push the boundaries with their design . The office comes complete with a recreational area with pool table, swings, bar, trampolines a Segway track (as seen in the image above) and a mixture of working spaces from booths to open plan areas.

The Acoustics

Much thought was given to the acoustics and through the use of Ecophon ceilings along with Autex rafts and decorative screens meant the space would have a feel that is easy to work in aswell as adding to the aesthetics of the design

Nursery settings are naturally full of energy, excitement and activity taking place, often numerous activities at anyone time.

With a mix of the children, staff and parents in the nursery throughout the course of the day can  lead to a space that requires a variety of communication needs.

Burmatofts community nursery in the heart of Leeds has up to 58 children from the age of 6 months to 4 years and provides an environment that is happy, safe and stimulating for the children to learn, play freely and feel secure and confident.

The Problem

It was noticed that the noise levels in the nursery, especially during the busier periods made for a sometimes difficult place to be. Communication between the staff, children and visitors could be a real challenge.

Although the nursery is full of soft toys and rugs its hard surfaced ceilings, floors and walls made it extremely reverberant. Sound traveled throughout the nursery and this created a stressful environment at times.

The Solution

Husht Acoustics carried out a thorough sound assessment, reverberation calculations giving a before and after estimation and then recommended the use of Ecophon Solo Squares throughout certain areas of the nursery.

True North Productions are an independent British television production company based in Leeds, West Yorkshire.

Creating a studio with a correctly balanced acoustic environment to achieve the highest quality recording can be difficult to achieve.

The Problem

True North Productions are based in a former flax spinning mill built as far back as the 1800’s, the Mill has been wonderfully restored in recent years but the barrel vaulted ceilings throughout the building can create some difficult acoustic spaces. Reverberation, sound clarity and propagation were all an issue within the True North offices/studio’s and there was a need to find a solution to improve the quality of sound within these spaces and this rapidly expanding office.

The Solution

A mix of free hanging units by Ecophon along with some wall panels added in by True North. All positioned throughout various locations of the office and studios to maximise the results and ultimately control the sound in the various spaces to suit the activities and work taking place.

The Outcome

The panels used absorb approximately 90% of the sound waves that come into contact meaning less reverberation,  reduced sound propagation and a much enhanced sound clarity for recording.

In the beverage industry, certain critical aspects are absolutely crucial to a company’s success. The environment must be controlled to ensure high product quality throughout the production chain. Hygiene is of key importance along with the health and safety of the staff within the facility. An environment with good lighting, ventilation, air quality and acoustics can create a good working environment to maximise productivity.

The Problem

Working with the architect, acoustic manufacturer and the main contractor from an early stage we were all able to plan and design in a suitable acoustic system that could offer both high levels of absorption to reduce the noise from the tens of thousands of colliding aluminium cans on a daily basis and also comply with the facility’s hygiene and cleaning standards.

The Solution

As this is a large volume space the most suitable and effective solution was to install hygienic sound absorbing baffles in various parts of the facility to reduce the reverberation, sound pressure levels and  importantly to control the noise in various parts of the site.

The Problem

Due to the nature of this business the facility is made of mostly hard surfaces such as stainless steel and plasterboard. These hard surfaces create an extremely reverberant and noisy environment.

The Solution

By adding acoustic materials that conform to the stringent cleaning regimes, in this case Ecophon Labotec were designed and installed in and around the existing services.

The Outcome

By adding this hygienic absorbent material, this helped reduce the reverberation as calculated and in turn reduced the overall decibel level by approximately 8dB as an average. This created a more comfortable and safer working environment where it is now much easier to communicate with one another and identify a variety of machine noise.

The Problem

It was clear that the restaurant’s acoustics needed work to enhance the diners’ experience as the space could become extremely loud (upto 85dB) when guest conversation combined with the noise from the open-plan kitchen. This level of noise can be stressful and ultimately ruin a diner’s experience.

The Solution

Working with leading acoustic consultant Alex Krasnic we devised various ‘raised voice’ and ‘normal voice’ scenarios to determine how quickly the sound disappeared from the room, known as reverberation time testing. Following these tests we were able to calculate and design a discreet installation method using a direct fix class A sound absorbing material.

The Outcome

A 3dBA noise reduction was achieved, equalling a 50% reduction in frequency specific reverberation times. This meant the restaurant was a much more comfortable environment for the restaurant’s diners.
