The reception area at Leeds Universities newly refurbished School of Chemical and Process Engineering is set to be a very busy space that had to give a wow factor on entry!

The Project

On this Galliford Try project Husht Acoustics were assigned the task of supplying and installing an acoustic timber feature wall, ceiling and matching desk to give a modern, fresh and welcoming feel to the entrance of the university.

The Acoustics

As well as the aesthetics being on point, the same needed to be considered with regards to the acoustics.

Atrium’s and reception areas can be extremely reverberant if the room acoustics are not designed in and well thought out in advance, this is often due to an overwhelming amount of glazing, ceramics and other hard surfaces.

On this project a solid oak acoustic timber system manufactured by Stil Acoustics was specified offering a good level of sound absorption by utilising the spacing’s in between each slat.
